We're not your grandfather's law firm - and that's kinda the point
Look, when I started practicing law back in 2015, I noticed something pretty frustrating. Most firms treating tech companies like they were just regular businesses with fancier gadgets. But that's not how it works, right? A SaaS startup isn't the same as a corner bakery, and PIPEDA compliance isn't something you can wing with a generic template you found online.
So we built something different here in Toronto. A place where lawyers actually understand what an API is. Where we've read the white papers, used the products, and yeah - we've even pushed code to GitHub ourselves. We're not pretending to be developers, but we speak the language because we've lived in that world.
Technology moves fast, regulations struggle to keep up, and businesses get caught in the middle. That's where we come in - helping you stay innovative without accidentally breaking laws that didn't exist five years ago.
We don't bill you for learning what your business does.
We respond to emails in hours, not days.
And we explain things like you're smart - because you are.
Opened our doors with one lawyer, two clients, and a strong coffee addiction. First office was basically a renovated storage room on King Street - but hey, the rent was reasonable and the wifi worked.
Brought on three more lawyers who actually got what we were trying to do. Handled our first major data breach response - learned a ton, drank way too much coffee, and realized this is exactly what we should be doing.
Finally upgraded to a proper office space. Helped 47 startups with incorporation and IP protection that year. Started seeing former clients get acquired - which honestly feels better than any award we could win.
Added cybersecurity legal advisory to our core services after seeing too many companies struggle post-breach. Developed our own PIPEDA compliance framework that actually makes sense to non-lawyers.
We've grown to a team of nine lawyers and support staff. Working with everyone from solo developers launching their first app to Series B companies navigating complex licensing deals. And we're still learning every single day.

Legal stuff is complicated enough without wrapping it in fifty-dollar words. We explain things straight - if you don't understand something we've said, that's on us to fix, not you.
In tech, waiting two weeks for a contract review can mean missing an opportunity. We get that. Our average response time is under 4 hours because deals don't happen on "lawyer time."
We're not here to protect you from yourself with a bunch of "you can't do that" responses. We're here to figure out how you CAN do what you want to do, legally and smartly.
Technology changes monthly. Regulations try to keep up yearly. We stay current not because we have to, but because if we're not learning, we're not serving you properly.

We're on Bay Street, but we promise we're way less stuffy than that sounds. Our office has actual windows, decent coffee, and whiteboards in every meeting room because the best conversations usually involve diagrams.
First consultation is always free - we'll grab coffee, talk through what you're dealing with, and give you our honest take on whether we can help. No pressure, no billable hours for that first chat.
